TalkBack - Dealing with sin
As Christians we want to follow Christ with all our beings and to repent of sin. This means working on our hearts, our minds and our wills

Haggai 2:10 to 23 - Blessings for a defiled people
The date is 18th December 520 BC, a few months after the building work had started. There was apparently a moment perhaps a ceremony when a foundation stone was laid. The people are called to look back and look forward, each way considering carefully that as they turn in repentance God stands ready to bless them. As they look forward they see that God was going to establish Zerubbabel as their leader who himself is a forerunner to Jesus.

Engaging with the world - God rather than man
When can Christians disobey the legal authorities? Perhaps when they are asked to deny their faith it is clear, but what about when we are asked to do something in our jobs that we think is wrong?

Haggai 2:1 to 9 - A Better House
The LORD wants to assure the Jews that although the temple they were rebuilding did not look much now and would not be as glorious as Solomon's God was with them and what he was building with them would be a kingdom that would never be shaken. It's the church - the great temple that is the only thing left standing at the end of time.

Engaging the world...when to submit to authorities
We might be tempted to withdraw from the world or actively campaign against pagan authorities, but rather, we are called to submit and do our duty. God has placed government and law-keepers there for our good and we recognise their leadership as part of our worship.

Haggai 1 - Think about Priorities
Haggai writes to the Jews who had returned from exile in Babylon. They had made wrong choices and given priority, time, effort and money to building their own houses and neglected the temple. God calls then to carefully consider that the consequence had been poor harvests and high inflation. The great thing is that the people respond and the Lord assures them he is with them as they repent and return to the work of building God’s house. This is full of helpful lessons for us about giving priority to building God’s kingdom and not our own.

Engaging the world...that opposes Christ
We begin a short series thinking about engaging with the world. Psalm 2 presents us with the reality that the world in general hates and opposes and wants to get rid of the rule of God through his Son, Jesus. However, God is not limited by this and all those who acknowledge the rule of Christ will be blessed but those who continue to reject him will experience the wrath of God.

Christ's Church...a gospel church, sharing in fellowship
We completed our series looking at the characteristics of a NT church by thinking together about fellowship: starting with a common faith that brings us into new family relationships, causing us to share our lives our homes and our money with others in need and with the church.

Christ's Church... where forgiveness is commonplace
The church should be a place where the forgiveness we have received from God in the sacrifice of Christ is reflected in our willingness to forgive others.

Christ's Church... with loving discipline
A gospel church includes loving discipline. We have the great privilege and responsibility to help each other grow in faith and avoid sin. Sometimes we need to speak directly with our Christian brother or sister and sometimes the church needs to be involved but always in love and seeking the best for others. A gospel church includes loving discipline
