John 17:6 to 19 - Father, protect them

In John 17 Jesus prays for his disciples. Jesus has revealed the Father to them by his works and words. He prays for his disciples that they may be protected by the word of God when he is gone. They are being sent into the world as he was sent: motivated by the love of God to bring the word of God. They are to be present but distinct - in the world but not of the world, immersed but not dissolved. This is our mission too.
